ABERDEEN – Monroe County Justice Court Judge Robert Fowlkes set a $1 million bond for the suspected Smithville bank robber in a hearing at 11 a.m. this morning, according to a Justice Court clerk.

Johnica Williams must come up with the cash bond if she wants to leave the Monroe County Adult Detention Center, where she has been held since Monday’s robbery of the Renasant Bank in Smithville.

Williams, a 21-year-old former Memphis resident who recently was living in Tupelo, allegedly demanded money from the bank shortly before 11 a.m. Monday.

According to Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell, she was disguised as a man when she handed a note to a bank teller that read, “Give me the money. I am armed.”

She was arrested later that day and charged with armed robbery, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.
