Storms that hit Northeast Mississippi in the early morning hours of Saturday only caused minimal damage.
According to Meteorologist Marlene Mickelson with the National Weather Service in Memphis there were reports of strong winds and large hail.
She said there were reports of one-inch-size hail in Saltillo and south of Guntown in Lee County. Also, Corinth and Alcorn County residents reported multiple buildings damaged by wind gusts that hit about 60-70 mph, Mickelson said. One of the them was the Corinth Machinery building.
The Corinth Machinery Company Building is probably the oldest industrial building in the state of Mississippi, certainly the largest remaining industrial building from that time period, according to http://misspreservation.com website. According to the site the building was built in 1869.
Sunday’s NWS forecast calls for severe storms in the region, mainly Sunday night.
