Son held in shooting of mother’s boyfriend

CORINTH – A 20-year-old Alcorn County man remained in jail Tuesday following a weekend dispute in which his mother’s boyfriend was shot.

Broderick Walker of Corinth was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting. Bond was set at $20,000.

James “Sonny” Davis, 48, was in good condition Tuesday at the North Mississippi Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said. A bullet entered his left arm and exited through his abdomen.

The shooting occurred just before 7 p.m. Saturday at the home of Walker’s mother on Penn Street, where Davis also lived.

Corinth Police Chief Fred Johnson said Walker, who lives with a grandmother, allegedly went to the Penn Street location and got into an altercation with his mother. Davis allegedly stepped in between the two, and Walker pulled a .380-caliber handgun from his pants, Johnson said. Davis started running and Walker followed, allegedly firing the weapon. Davis was hit only once, though several shots were fired.
