TUPELO – The City Council tonight unanimously accepted a $6.5 million bid from APAC to widen a portion of South Gloster Street.
It now goes to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, which also must green light the bid before it’s authorized. MDOT is expected to approve it.
The long-anticipated project could get started within weeks. It will add a fifth lane to South Gloster from Garfield Street to the new Highway 6 near the southern edge of the city.
A majority of the project’s funds will come from the taxpayer-supported Major Thoroughfare Program. Another $1.6 million will come from a federal grant, and about $675,000 will come from MDOT.
