Southaven mayor asks court to return $96K

JACKSON — Southaven Mayor Greg Davis has asked a Hinds County judge to return to him the $96,000 he paid to the state amid allegations of misspending city money.

The Commercial Appeal reports that Davis filed a motion in Hinds County Chancery Court, where he is locked in a dispute with State Auditor Stacey Pickering over repayment of the funds.

Pickering has sought to garnish Davis’ salary to collect the $73,000 Davis still owes. A judge temporarily stopped Pickering from doing that.

Davis had raised the $96,000 from supporters. Pickering turned the money back to the city in August.

In his Oct. 3 motion, Davis says the auditor’s office made the demand for repayment for the expenses without conducting an audit.

Davis has not been charged with a crime.
