TUPELO – Hard-working, dedicated women from throughout Northeast Mississippi will be honored on April 27 during the Tribute to Women awards.

Girl Scouts of Northeast Mississippi is hosting the event, which will recognize women in six categories: business and government, education, the arts, health and human services, teen leadership, and volunteer community service.

“We have two or three nominees in each field,” said spokeswoman Eileen Bailey. “We are recognizing women for the role they play in the community – and the girls as well.”

Corporate sponsorships are available for $5,000, and table sponsorships are $500. Individual tickets are $25.

Jack Reed Sr. will be master of ceremonies.

“These women play an important part in the lives of girls,” said Sarah Edwards, Girl Scouts CEO. “This is a formal part of their education.

“Education is so much more than book learning. We are spotlighting women in the community who achieve goals they set for themselves, who show girls that they can achieve things,” she said.

Many of the women recognized mentor girls and young women starting their careers.

“We want to let the community see that we value the role of women,” Bailey said. “We serve girls, and adult volunteers, 98 percent of whom are women.”
