TUPELO – The St. Luke United Methodist Church Food Pantry will host “Food Around the World,” a food, beverage and entertainment extravaganza today beginning at 6 p.m. at the church.
Patrons will be able mingle through food stations featuring specialties from eight different countries, such as the Greek entree moussaka, Chinese cream corn soup and lumpia, which are Filipino egg rolls.
Serving sizes will be small, but patrons may revisit the stations as much as they’d like.
“This is a great opportunity to sample classic dishes from all over the world,” said Cliff Pickens, coordinator for the event.
Tickets, which are available at the church at 1400 Clayton Ave., are $25 for the general public and $20 for senior citizens. Children 10 and under dine free when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
A smorgasbord of desserts also will be served along with coffees and teas from different parts of the world. The coffee and dessert venue will also showcase musical entertainment by local artists.
A silent auction and craft/food bazaar will feature items for those hard-to-buy-for loved ones on your Christmas gift list.
The St. Luke Food Pantry provides free grocery items to needy families in the community. It has served about 20,000 people in the Tupelo area in 2010.
