STARKVILLE — The Starkville School Board is reviewing the 22 applicants to be the new superintendent.
Board members spent more than two hours Thursday hearing a detailed analysis of each applicant from the Mississippi School Boards Association, which has been handling the search for the school district.
Of the group, 14 are from Mississippi and two are from Alabama, 19 are men and three are women. Six currently are serving as a superintendent, three are assistant superintendents and five are principals.
WCBI TV reports the state association has been doing detailed background checks and interviews since the Oct. 31 application deadline. One of the original 22 applicants has withdrawn.
The new superintendent, who could be named by the end of February, will replace Judy Couey, who was forced out this summer after three years.
Beth Sewell is serving as interim superintendent until a selection is made.
