STARKVILLE — Starkville residents will vote Tuesday on a $8.45 million bond issue to finance land acquisition and construction of a new justice complex.
It takes approval from 60 percent of voters for the bond issue to pass. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close 7 p.m.
Starkville officials say the current police station is overcrowded and doesn’t have sufficient space to store or process evidence.
The building, in use since 1968, also takes on water during storms and is prone to sewage leaks.
The bond issue is Phase 1 of a two-part municipal facilities master plan adopted in August. Part 2, which will be addressed in 2013, calls for renovation of City Hall.
A previous police station bond issue failed in 2006.
