Starkville MS: Wiseman says fee to help with drainage projects

By The Associated Press

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman has suggested adding a drainage fee to city utilities.

Wiseman says the fee would help offset a million-dollar gap between expected revenues and project costs over the next 10 years.

Wiseman has suggested $2.50 a month for residential units and $5 a month for commercial customers.

Wiseman says the fee would generate $400,000 a year.

City Attorney Chris Latimer says he’ll research the legality of implementing a stormwater fee before the city board takes any action.

Wiseman says storm sewer fees are a growing trend he researched in other municipalities.
