State employees' health costs to increase Jan. 1

JACKSON – Health insurance costs will go up Jan. 1 for some Mississippi government employees.
A board decided Wednesday that employees will pay 15 percent more for dependents’ coverage. Premiums for Medicare-eligible retirees also will increase 15 percent.
Employees hired on or before Dec. 31, 2005, will pay $20 a month if they want to keep their current “select” level of coverage. Employees hired on or after Jan. 1, 2006, will have to pay $38 a month, up from $18.
