State hires LeVaughn as chief medical examiner

JACKSON – Department of Public Safety Commissioner Albert today announced that Dr. Mark LeVaughn has joined DPS as the state’s chief medical examiner.
LeVaughn becomes the first full time state medical examiner since 1995.
An Ohio native, LeVaughn comes to Mississippi after serving as deputy chief medical examiner for the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office in Buffalo, N.Y.
Before working in Buffalo, LeVaughn served as deputy medical examiner for the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s office and as regional medical examiner-forensic pathologist for coroners in Indiana and Illinois based at the coroner’s office in Evansville, Ind.
