State: Inmate's death likely suicide

By The Associated Press

JACKSON — A 30-year-old state inmate serving 23 years for armed robbery and aggravated assault at the Kemper County Regional Correctional Facility is dead in what authorities say appears to be a suicide.

Recardo Harris was found unconscious in his cell at 1:28 p.m. Friday. He was taken to John C. Stennis Memorial Hospital in DeKalb, where he was pronounced dead. The Mississippi Department of Corrections says preliminary information indicates the death is a suicide. But, authorities say, the Kemper County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are investigating to determine how it occurred.

The Clarion-Ledger reports Harris was serving 15 years for armed robbery out of Lauderdale County and eight years for aggravated assault out of Neshoba County.
