JACKSON – State Sen. J.P. Wilemon, D-Belmont, has missed the past week of the legislative session after undergoing gallbladder-related surgery at University Medical Center.
It was reported from the floor of the Mississippi Senate that Wilemon was recovering at the Jackson hospital. He had to undergo two procedures related to his gallbladder, but was spared the more invasive surgery, according to reports.
Wilemon, who has been in the Senate since 2004, represents Prentiss and portions of Tishomingo and Itawamba counties.
Wilemon is the second Northeast Mississippi legislator to undergo gallbladder-related surgery this session. Rep Steve Holland, D-Plantersville, has been at UMC since Jan 23. He had to undergo the more invasive surgery and a followup procedure.
Reports indicate that Holland could be discharged from the hospital this weekend.
