Stolen phone's GPS leads to burglary suspect

By The Associated Press

COLUMBUS — Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies tracked a stolen cell phone with a GPS device to a suspect in more than two dozen car burglaries.

Investigator Tony Cooper told The Dispatch that a man who spotted a police detail in the Steens community tossed numerous items out the window of his car. But when deputies stopped him Saturday afternoon there was still stolen merchandize in the vehicle connecting him to the burglaries — including the phone.

Cooper said purses, change and checkbooks were taken during the weekend burglaries and investigators also are looking for a couple of missing guns.
