UPDATE: 9:54 p.m. – High winds and stormy weather hit Northeast Mississippi Wednesday night.
Oxford and Lafayette County were hit around 9 p.m. According to Oxford Police Chief Mike Martin, a heavy wind gust came through and caused damage.
He said the canopy of the Chevron station was blown off at the intersection of Highway 278 and Thacker Road. Also, widespread power outages were reported throughout Lafayette County and in portions of Oxford.
A few trees were reported across the road.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 70. South southwest wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
