Student arrested in gun incident

AMORY – An 11-year-old boy has been arrested for reportedly bringing a gun to East Amory Elementary School.
Police said the 9-mm handgun reportedly was fully loaded. The boy was arrested without incident Wednesday morning by the Amory Police Department.
His case is being processed in the Monroe County Youth Courts.
East Amory Principal Brian Jones let parents know the arrest was “an isolated incident that was handled in the best possible manner,” several parents said Thursday.
Classes were not disrupted after the arrest.
Amory School District Superintendent Jim Sappington could not be reached for comment. Amory Police Chief Ronnie Bowen did not return calls Thursday afternoon.
The Amory School Board will hold its regular scheduled meeting Monday.
