Students advance to county spelling bee

The Lee County Schools bee was won by Mooreville Middle School eighth-grader Will Pate, who correctly spelled the winning word, ballerina. Aliyah Lee, a fifth-grader at Plantersville Middle, was second, and Nikki Hankins (eighth-grade at Mooreville Middle) placed third.
Milam sixth-grader Treyce Bannerman won the Tupelo Public Schools spelling bee, where the winning word was exfoliate. Rankin Elementary fifth-grader Achintya Prasad was second. Sam Bates (fourth grade at Lawndale) and Val Lawson (fifth grade at Rankin) tied for third. Bates won the spell-off to advance to next week’s county spelling bee.
The top three finishers from each contest advance to the Lee County Spelling Bee.
