Students' injuries minor in bus wreck in Potts Camp

POTTS CAMP – No children were seriously injured when a Marshall County school bus was involved in a two-vehicle wreck on the Tippah River bridge on state Highway 178 Friday morning.
Don Randolph, Marshall County school superintendent, said the wreck occurred when the bus was eastbound toward Potts Camp and a westbound truck apparently hit ice on the bridge and slid into the bus’ lane. The bus driver, Randolph said, diverted to the other lane but could not avoid a collision.
Two people in the truck were injured and transported to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, he said, with apparently non-life-threatening injuries.
Some parents reached the scene before district personnel and took their children home. Most students, however, were checked by a school nurse, and the only injuries found were a busted lip and a nosebleed, Randolph said.
He noted that roads had repeatedly been checked for ice before buses were sent out, and no ice was on the bridge when the bus crossed it on the outbound portion of its route.
