Sunday fires hit popular MS, LA restaurants

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) — Fire has hit popular restaurants in Ocean Springs, Miss., and Chalmette, La.

Jackson County, Miss., authorities say The Shed BBQ & Blues Joint burned down early Sunday. St. Bernard Parish fire officials say Rocky & Carlo’s restaurant was heavily damaged by a fire reported at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd tells The Mississippi Press (http://bit.ly/AoM6PG) that The Shed is a total loss after a fire that started at 2:30 a.m. It was one of the Gulf Coast’s most popular restaurants.

In Chalmette, fire crews raced to Rocky and Carlo’s Restaurant about 9 a.m. and put out a fire in the back kitchen. Authorities say the roof, kitchen and surrounding areas were heavily damaged, but the fire was contained.
