Sunday liquor sales OK'd for West Point

WEST POINT — Mayor Scott Ross says the state has changed its mind and will allow Sunday liquor sales in West Point.

The Mississippi State Tax Commission had rejected the city’s proposal in 2008. Ross read the board of selectmen Tuesday a letter in which the commission said it had reconsidered.

Ross says onsite vendors, not package stores, may now sell alcohol between the hours of 10 a.m.-midnight on Sundays.

The Commercial Dispatch reports that Ross told selectmen that the letter specifically mentioned recent decisions to allow Sunday sales in Columbus and Starkville.
