The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate a one vehicle crash on U.S. 78, Sunday, that claimed the life of a child.
Aletryce Holmes, 7, of Fort Smith, Ark., was killed after the vehicle her mother was driving overturned on Highway 78, near the Peppertown exit. According to MHP troopers, she was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. She was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center with serious injures and later died from her injuries received in the crash.
Troopers were called to mile marker 100 at approximately 11:57 am. yesterday morning in response to the accident. Upon arriving it appeared Ruth Holmes, 42, was traveling east in 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe when she apparently lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road and overturned.
There were five passengers in Holmes’ vehicle: her husband, Freddy Holmes, 44, and four children. The driver and all the passengers were taken to North Mississippi Medical Center where they are still being held.
