POPLARVILLE – Pearl River County Supervisor Hudson Holliday will formally kick off his campaign for the Republican nomination for governor on Thursday with a rally at the courthouse in Poplarville.
Holliday filed his qualifying papers last week for the Aug. 2 GOP primary. Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, Gulf Coast businessman Dave Dennis and state employee James Broadwater of Byram also are on the ballot.
The candidate filing deadline is March 1. The general election is Nov. 8.
On the Democratic side, Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree and Clarksdale attorney and businessman Bill Luckett have filed.
Holliday was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2007. He is a Poplarville businessman. He is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and served in the National Guard.
