Supplies sought to help Waveland church after spill

PONTOTOC – Supplies are being sought to help a church in Waveland, where residents are trying to recover from the impact of the recent oil spill.
A truck will be parked Thursday at By-Faith Baptist Church on state Highway 15 North to collect supplies. It will leave at 7 p.m. to carry supplies to the Coast community, which also was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Lakeshore Baptist Church, west of Waveland, has been helping with a relief center since Katrina and its supplies have almost been depleted.
Billy Martin, who is leading the Pontotoc effort to help, said the center needs men’s and children’s clothing as well as non-perishable foods such as canned goods, dried beans, peas and rice.
He asked that anyone who wants to donate clothes to put them in an enclosed box that can easily be picked up.
Supplies should be delivered by 6:30 p.m. but, Martin said, “we will stay until folks stop bringing things.”
