BOONEVILLE – A suspect is in custody with Booneville Police Department in the severe beating of a victim reported Wednesday evening.

Chief Michael Ramey would not identify either the suspect or the victim, a 21-year-old black male, but the suspect was arrested Friday by the Booneville Police Department.

The Booneville Police Department received a call from Baptist Memorial Hospital-Booneville about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Ramey said, reporting that a patient they were treating had been severely beaten.

The victim later was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, where he is in stable condition.

The scene of the incident on Martin Luther King Drive has been processed for evidence, and Ramey said he expects to disclose Monday the names of the victim, the suspect and the charges.
