MYRTLE – A suspect in a domestic violence incident in western Union County died after being shot by a Union County deputy sheriff on Tuesday night.

Sheriff Jimmy Edwards declined to identify either the deceased or the deputy involved in the shooting pending investigation. He said a 911 call shortly before 8 p.m. reported a domestic disturbance, and a deputy was dispatched to 1218 County Road 51.

“It ended with the suspect being shot,” Edwards said, noting that the suspect was taken to a local hospital and died around midnight.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will lead the investigation of the incident.

Edwards declined to note the circumstances that led to the shooting while the investigation is ongoing. He confirmed that only the deputy, the suspect and two females were in the house at the time of the shooting.
