RAYMOND — A 24-year-old Jackson man faces a capital murder charge in the shooting death of a Jackson police officer.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that Latwan Smith was being held at the jail in Raymond.

Jackson Police Department Assistant Chief Lee Vance says it appears officer Glen Agee was shot with his own gun Friday after struggling with the suspect in 5 feet of water behind a Sonic Drive-In.

The 31-year-old Agee had been shot in the face. He had only been on the force for two months.
