UPDATE: Suspicious package at Home Depot deemed safe

UPDATE, 9:41 a.m.: Police say a suspicious package at the Home Depot in Tupelo has been deemed safe, and the scene has been cleared for business to resume as usual.

“I know this is inconvenient, but it’s important that we check things like this out and make sure everything’s safe,” Maj. Anthony Hill said.

Lt. Terry Morgan, who heads the Tupelo Police Department bomb squad, said the suspicious package at the store contained and old typewriter. The typewriter left in a shopping cart in the parking lot near the entrance of Home Depot, situated inside of a briefcase style case.


TUPELO – Police are on the scene at Home Depot this morning because of a suspicious package.

The Tupelo Police Department’s explosive ordnance disposal team is on site. The Home Depot parking lot has been blocked to all incoming traffic.
