TUPELO – Music and food will come together on the Link Centre stage for a Tupelo Symphony Orchestra fundraiser.
Dinner on the Stage, which combines food and an almost complete concert version of “Oklahoma!” is next weekend.
“I purposefully picked the best singers I could find,” said Jo Miller Orr, who is coordinating the event. “It’s absolutely phenomenal.”
Performers for the evening include Jody Neal Blake, Sarah Childers, Mickey Gousset and Mark Maharrey.
“The combination of voices – I liken it to a dream come true,” Orr said.
The menu for the night includes a choice of trout a la meuniere, corn and pepper saute and lime creme fraiche or roulade of beef, blue cheese and buerre rouge, asparagus and green bean frites and roasted pepper aioli.
The Link Centre’s chef, Vicki Leach, is preparing the food.
This is the third year for the Dinner on the Stage fundraiser.
The Tupelo Symphony is only one of two professional symphonies in Mississippi.
Like many arts programs in Mississippi, the TSO can always use a few extra dollars.
“It’s totally amazing what we can do with what little we’ve got,” Orr said.
TSO’s 41st season continues with a Christmas performance on Dec. 8; Concerto No. 1 by Saint-Saëns featuring cellist Allison Eldredge on Jan. 26; a Liszt Spectacular featuring pianist Cecil Licad on Feb. 23; Mikado on March 23; and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue featuring pianist Yoonie Han on April 27.
