Task force tapped to lead Christmas parade

TUPELO – Instead of a “Holly Jolly Christmas,” Tupelo might be set up for a happy, jogging Christmas.
On Wednesday, members of the Healthy Tupelo Task Force were named grand marshals for the 2012 Reed’s Tupelo Christmas Parade.
“Instead of taking a float, we probably should walk or jog or do jumping jacks,” said Hank Boerner, co-chairman of the task force.
The theme is “Have a Healthy Christmas.” Lucia Randle, marketing director at Reed’s, said she hopes the theme will inspire people to get a jump on their 2013 resolutions.
“We’re going to try to address some healthy choices, some little things you can do for a healthier lifestyle going forward,” Randle said.
Mayor Jack Reed Jr. said the task force members were a perfect choice, especially after they helped Tupelo win the title of “Mississippi’s Healthiest Hometown,” which came with a $50,000 prize to continue healthy initiatives.
The 2012 grand marshals will be Boerner, Liz Dawson, Donna Loden, Mary Ann Plasencia, Lisa Russell, Don Lewis, Bill Hilbun, Ginna Parsons, David Leathers, Mary Davidson, Annabeth Wyatt and Leighann Grace.
The Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association will take entries until Nov. 9, and the event will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.
