SENATOBIA — A Tate County sheriff’s deputy has been placed on leave while an investigation continues into the shooting death of a man this past week.
Sheriff Brad Lance tells The Commercial Appeal that the man, identified as John Gabbert, was shot to death Friday by the deputy after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers responding to a call at a home in Senatobia.
The deputy has not been identified. Lance says the deputy, who is on administrative leave with pay, had been called to assist police at the home.
Lance says the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate the shooting.
