TUPELO – Tupelo Community Theatre’s production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” scored several awards over the weekend at the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Louisville, Ky.
TCT won awards for ensemble acting, best costumes and was awarded runner up for best production. The competition also gives special awards, and TCT actor Alex Hargett won Outstanding Commitment to a Physical Moment.
The production won overall at state competition and advanced on to SETC. If neither of the two winning productions can advance to nationals, TCT will go in their place.
“We’re thrilled, and still hopeful. The set’s not coming apart yet,” said Tom Booth, TCT’s executive director and director of “Spelling Bee.”
National competitions are in Indiana in June.
