TUPELO – On Friday, audiences are invited to see Tupelo Community Theatre’s latest award-winning play, “Oleanna.”
TCT presented David Mamet’s play at the 2011 Mississippi Theatre Association Festival earlier this month. It won Best Director honors for Tom Booth, and both actors, Jonathan Martin and Sarah Weatherby, were named to the All Start Cast.
Martin plays a professor, and one of his students accuses him of inappropriate behavior. The audience gets to see the couple interact in three scenes, but the offending behavior is never shown.
“In some ways, it’s similar to the play, ‘Doubt,’ in that you’re left to decide for yourself who’s telling the truth,” Booth said.
“Oleanna” will last about an hour, and it will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Lyric Theatre. General admission tickets are $10.
Wine and beer will be available at a cash bar. After the show, there will be a chance to speak with the cast and crew.
“We’re going to take as long as the audience wants to stay and talk about the play, and talk about what they think happened,” Booth said.
At times, the playwright uses adult language to tell the story.
“It’s a small part of the show,” Booth said, “but it is very tough when it is used.”
