The average price for a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline in Mississippi has risen 2.5 cents since December, according to a recent AAA Mississippi survey.
Released on Friday, the survey showed the average price inched up in January to $1.069 per gallon.
Tupelo enjoyed the lowest average in the state at $0.99 per gallon, up slightly from $0.985 in December. The highest average price was reported in Vicksburg at $1.099.
The survey also showed the average prices around the state for mid-grade and premium unleaded gasoline had risen slightly to $1.164 and $1.258 per gallon, respectively.
“The extremely cold weather that many places across the country have experienced recently has certainly increased the demand for fuel,” said Danon Jones, director of public and government relations for AAA Mississippi. “This increased demand has forced the price of gasoline and other types of fuel to rise.”
