The Mississippi Supreme Court is the state’s highest court, hearing appeals from the state’s trial courts and its Court of Appeals. The Supreme Court consists of nine members elected from three geographic districts in the northern, central and southern portions of the state.
This year, one seat in the northern district is open with the pending retirement of Justice George Carlson. Two candidates are running in the nonpartisan race to succeed Carlson, attorneys Josiah Coleman of Oxford and Richard “Flip” Phillips of Batesville. Today the Daily Journal profiles these two men.
