Three in region get Merit Scholarships

EVANSTON, Ill. – Three Northeast Mississippi students are among 21 Mississippians to receive $2,500 scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Rick Deaton of Tupelo High School, Andrew Mullen of Oxford High School and Charlotte Wang of Starkville were each chosen for the scholarships. Wang is a student at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science.
The scholarships are given to National Merit Finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
They were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors.
Nationally, 2,500 students won National Merit $2,500 Scholarships, which they can use at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
