VARDAMAN – Three children were killed in an early morning fire in Vardaman on Saturday.

The children, 7-year-old twins Yobani and Isabel Razo and 9-year-old Oscar Razo, were pronounced dead at the scene of the fire, according to Calhoun County Coroner Jerry Flemming.

Calhoun County Sheriff Greg Pollan said the call went out through 911 about 2:45 a.m. and Vardaman Fire Department was first on the scene, followed by the Vardaman Police Department, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the state fire marshal’s office.

Pollan said the family was at the 119 First St. home, and the children’s mother, Kimberly Brown, and two older siblings escaped the flames. They were transported to Trace Regional Hospital in Houston where they were treated and released.

Pollan said officials suspect the fire was started by a small portable electric heater in the living room but the State Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the fire.

At this point, he said, no foul play is suspected.

The blaze was put out by about 5 a.m.
