VAIDEN — The Mississippi Highway Patrol says three students from the University of Mississippi died Sunday in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near Vaiden.

State Trooper Tony Dunn says the accident occurred about 8:30 a.m. Sunday when the car in which they were riding ran off the interstate at the Mississippi Highway 35 overpass.

The University of Mississippi and the patrol identified the students as 18-year-old Samuel Clayton Kelly, 19-year-old Charles Walker Kelly and 19-year-old Bryant Mason Wilbanks, all of Madison, Miss. All three were freshmen at Ole Miss.

Dunn says all three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Dunn says the accident is under investigation.

All three were pledges of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity.

“The University is always saddened when we lose even one student, but when we lose three freshmen who were such great young men, it is particularly devastating. All of us in the Ole Miss family are heartbroken,” Ole Miss Dean of Students Sparky Reardon said in a statement. “We offer our prayers to their families, their friends, and their fraternity brothers and we will do all in our power to provide them with comfort and support during this sad time.”
