Randy Kelley, executive director of the Three Rivers Planning and Development District, confirmed Tuesday that a process has started with the help of his “friends” to gauge support for his possible nomination to the TVA board of directors.
Kelley, who has led the Pontotoc-based, eight-county regional agency for 33 years, said he has his board of directors’ approval to accept a nomination for the part-time TVA position.
The TVA board is a presidential nomination, with confrmation by the U.S. Senate.
The Tennessee Valley Authority is the nation’s largest public utility and serves all or part of eight southern states. Its nine-member board has four regular meetings annually and is subject to call for special sessions. TVA’s chief executive officer reports to the board.
Kelley said the process involves obtaining resolutions of support and working with Mississippi’s congressional delegation. No Mississippian serves currently serves on the board.
