Tickets on sale for Tupelo wine event

TUPELO – Tickets are on sale for Wine Downtown, a new spring event from the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association.
Wine Downtown is a wine-tasting activity April 29 that serves as a fundraiser for the organization. It’s the reincarnation of Wine Down Main, which was held in 2008 in conjunction with a Humane Society fundraiser.
This year’s event will be much bigger than the previous one, said Amy Nash, president of Main Street’s board and the chairwoman of the event. Eleven downtown merchants will participate as stops on the tasting tour.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the event and can be bought in advance at any participating business. The Main Street Association will sell them the night of the event.
The ticket includes a commemorative wine glass, a passport map and a logo paper bag to collect wine information and goodies.
Nash said the 11 stops will have wine for tasting, along with food pairings. Wine company representatives will be on hand to provide information about the beverages. The wine-tasting component is from 5 to 7 p.m.
After the tasting is over, participants can either go to the rooftop at Park Heights or the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The rooftop will have free hor d’ourves, a cash bar and live music. To gain entry, Nash said, participants must have their passport stamped from all 11 stops on the tour.
The CVB at 7:30 p.m. will show an award-winning documentary called “Who Does She Think She Is?” The filmmakers will be in attendance. While the CVB and the film screening are part of the Wine Downtown event, Pat Rasberry of the Tupelo Film Commission said it is open to the public and a ticket is not needed for entrance.
