TUPELO – A regional tire theft ring has once again made a stop in Tupelo.
Police are investigating a theft at Dossett Big 4 where tires were stolen off two vehicles sometime Thursday night. Video cameras recorded the crime, but police had not made any arrest late Friday afternoon.
Dwayne Blackmon Chevrolet had the same thing happen to four of its vehicles over the past couple of months with the latest occurring two weeks ago. Owner of Dossett Big 4 Rudy Dossett said a 2011 GMC Sierra and 2008 GMC Denali were discovered sitting on cinder blocks and missing tires when employees arrived to work Thursday.
Dwayne Blackmon said the thefts have cost him.
“Those sets of tires and rims cost around $4,000 each and that’s money we have to pay to replace them,” he said. “This has been going on for a while, so I hope these people are caught.”
Tupelo Police Detective Tim Tate said this type of crime has been happening throughout the region and police agencies are working together to solve them.
“We have video of the suspects committing the crime on Thursday night,” said Tate. “We are working very hard to get these things solved and we could use the community’s help.”
The ring is believed to span across Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas.
