RIENZI, Miss. (AP) — Rienzi officials want to turn industrial building into community center.
The Daily Corinthian reports that Mayor Walter Williams asked Alcorn County supervisors to give the property to the town.
Williams says the downtown building, once by the Wurlitzer company and later by King Manufacturing Company, is in declining condition.
The county-owned building has been leased to King Manufacturing.
Williams says the property also could be used for a park or walking path.
Supervisor Tim Mitchell said he hopes to see the town of Rienzi become the overseer of the property and for the town to determine how it will be used.
Mitchell said King Manufacturing is willing to turn the property back over to the county after the current sublease tenant is given time to vacate.
