TUPELO – The Mall at Barnes Crossing is opening one of 600 Toys R Us Express stores for the lucrative holiday selling season.
Located next to Buckle in the mall, the mini-store version of the toys and games retailer is scheduled to open Oct. 29.
It will mark the return of a toy store in the mall for the first time since K.B. Toys filed for bankruptcy and shuttered its stores nationwide several years ago.
Toys R Us announced last month that it was going to hire about 10,000 workers for its Toys R Us “pop-up” stores nationwide which would be located in malls and shopping centers.
The Express stores won’t carry a full line of toys, but will offer a “convenient selection of playthings and perennial favorites” such as dolls, action figures and educational toys, the company said. Gift cards also will be sold.
Jeff Snyder, the mall’s general manager, said the Toys R Us Express store will be open through January.
Also, another store catering to kids, Build-A-Bear Workshop, is scheduled to open Nov. 5, Snyder said.
Another retailer opening in November will be Cellairis, a cell phone accessory company based in Atlanta. It has about 1,000 outlets nationwide.
