TUPELO – The Tupelo Public School District is considering two drafts for its 2012-13 school year calendar.
Both drafts were presented during Tuesday’s regular school board meeting. The district will likely adapt its calendar during its next regular board meeting, Feb. 14.
Under one draft of the calendar, students would begin the year on Thursday, Aug. 9 and have their last day before Christmas on Friday, Dec. 21. The second semester would start on Tuesday, Jan. 8, and graduation would be on Friday, May 24.
Under the other schedule, classes would begin on Tuesday, Aug. 7, and the final day of the first semester would be on Wednesday, Dec. 19. Students would return from winter break on Friday, Jan. 4, and graduation would be on Friday, May 17. The final day of exams for non-seniors would be on May 22.
Both calendars have holidays on Sept. 3 (Labor Day), Oct. 8 (Columbus Day), Nov. 19-23 (Thanksgiving), Jan. 21 (Martin Luther King day), Feb. 18 (President’s Day), March 11-15 (spring break), March 29 (Good Friday) and April 1 (Easter Monday).
They have 60 percent days on Aug. 29, Sept. 26, Oct. 31, Nov. 28, Jan. 30, Feb. 27, March 27 and April 24.
The district will seek input from parents, teachers and principals as it chooses its final calendar. A survey for parents is available on the districts’ website, www.tupeloschools.com. It can be found under “District News” on the right side of the page.
