TUPELO – Tupelo’s latest crop of honor roll students can proudly display their accomplishment.
The school district created a new yard sign for all of its honor-roll students in kindergarten to 12th grade. Students who made the achievement were given their new placard on Friday.
“I’m glad to be recognized,” said seventh-grader Keyonce White, 12.
Keyonce planned to put the sign in her yard as soon as she got home from school on Friday afternoon so that her mom would be surprised when she arrived from work.
“She’ll be shocked at first, but she will be glad,” she said.
Fellow seventh-grader Lylla Clardy, 12, said the sign makes her want to be on the honor roll again.
The signs have slots for each of the four nine-week periods, and students will receive a sticker each time they make the honor roll to add to the appropriate slot. Those that make the Superintendent’s list (all As) get a sticker with the Golden Wave logo, while those on the Principal’s list (As and Bs) get one with a gold “T.”
On Friday, the district distributed signs to 1,118 students who made the Superintendent’s list and 1,787 who made the Principal’s list for a total of 2,905.
“We are so proud of our students for working hard and setting their sights high, and for being an example for all to follow,” said Superintendent Gearl Loden. “We hope students will take pride in displaying their new signs.”
