The Tupelo Public School District is investigating a bullying video involving Tupelo students.
The video was posted at Facebook.com, but has since been removed. The bully in the video was a sixth-grader at Milam Elementary and the person being bullied was also a student in the district.
The incident occurred off-campus, but it was at a bus stop, which is why the district is investigating it, said TPSD Assistant Superintendent Fred Hill.
Hill said on Friday afternoon that the incident was still under investigation and that he could not comment further.
A note posted on the district’s Facebook page said that it removed the video from Facebook because of student privacy and the investigation procedure.
“TPSD takes allegations of bullying very seriously,” the district posed on its Facebook page. “We have a board policy that directly addresses this issue. An investigation is conducted when bullying is reported or witnessed. If bullying did occur, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.”
Although the incident occurred off campus, the district also posted that “Students are subject to discipline for off-campus behavior when it interferes with another student’s right to safe school environment.”
