Trial date set for ricin letters suspect

By The Associated Press

JACKSON — A July 29 trial date has been set for man charged with sending ricin-laced letters to President Barack Obama, a U.S. senator and a local judge.

James Everett Dutschke of Tupelo is charged with sending the poison-tainted letters on April 8 to Obama, U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker and Lee County Justice Court Judge Sadie Holland.

Dutschke’s lawyer entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf this week and waived arraignment in U.S. District Court in Oxford.

Dutschke, a former martial arts instructor, was arrested April 27. He is being held without bond in the Lafayette County jail.

Dutschke has denied involvement in the letters.
