Trial delay for offender who failed to register

ABERDEEN — A federal judge has postponed the trial of a convicted sex offender charged with failing to register when he came to Mississippi from Minnesota.

Authorities say Calvin Windless failed to register from October 2010 to August 2011. He had been scheduled for sentencing Feb. 24. The presiding judge in the case recently died so the case was reassigned.

The new sentencing date is April 5 in U.S. District Court in Aberdeen.

The 34-year-old Windless had been required to register as a sex offender after a conviction in Minnesota for aggravated sexual assault. He pleaded guilty in October to failing to register.
