Trojans squash Pirates

COFFEEVILLE – The Bruce Trojans, ranked No. 1 in the Daily Journal’s Class 1A-2A poll, remained unbeaten with a convincing 49-12 win over Coffeeville in area high school football action Friday night.
Trojans QB Davis Brown went into the game with six touchdown passes and added two more to his total in Week 3.
Brown connected with Rashad Turner from 40 yards and Terrance Jones from 47 yards, both of those coming in the second quarter when the Trojans (3-0) blew open a semi-close game.
Coffeeville (0-3) got on the board first when Rakeenon Nicholson broke free on a punt return. The conversion attempt failed, and the Pirates led 6-0.
Bruce scored the game’s next 49 points, including 16 in the first quarter.
Benjamin Williams scored on runs of 5 and 3 yards, and Brown was good on a pair of two-point conversion passes, and the Trojans led 16-6 after one period.
They put the game away with 27 points in the second quarter. In addition to his two TD passes, Brown scored on an 8-yard run, and the Trojans got a special teams score when Jay Johnson returned a blocked punt 10 yards.
Terrance Jones scored the Trojans’ final points, getting loose on a 46-yard run with 7:30 left in the game.
Coffeeville added its second touchdown 5:05 to play, a 60-yard run by Antavious Moody.
