TUPELO – The Tupelo Public School District is expected to hire two new elementary school principals today.
The district has a special called school board meeting at 2 p.m. at the Hancock Leadership Center. It is expected the board will approve new principals for Thomas Street and Parkway elementary schools at that meeting.
Both schools have scheduled receptions for this afternoon for parents and community members to meet their new principals. Parkway’s reception will be held from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. in the school’s media center, and Thomas Street’s will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the school auditorium.
The new Thomas Street Principal will be Pontotoc Elementary Principal Chad Chism, according to an electronic newsletter sent by the school on Wednesday afternoon to announce the reception. Chism’s hire would still be pending board approval.
He would replace Kay Collins, who is retiring at the end of the school year. Parkway Elementary Principal Anna Guntharp was recently named the district’s federal programs director.
Both schools house kindergarten to second-grade students. Pontotoc Elementary is also a K-2 school.
Also on the agenda for today’s board meeting is the consideration of awarding bids for an expansion of Tupelo High School’s cafeteria.
